CGT

Capital Gains Tax (CGT) is a tax on the profit made when disposing of property that is not a main residence, including buy-to-let properties and second homes. HMRC administers CGT and publishes guidance on rates, allowances, and reporting requirements, while legislation.gov.uk provides the underlying statutory framework through the Taxation of Chargeable Gains Act 1992 and subsequent Finance Acts. Letting agents and estate agents may encounter CGT considerations when clients sell investment properties or when advising on property transactions. Watchdog HQ monitors changes to CGT weekly.
