GASSAFE

Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 require landlords to maintain gas appliances, fittings, and flues in a safe condition and arrange annual safety checks by Gas Safe registered engineers. The regulations are enforced by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), with guidance also published by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (formerly MHCLG) and referenced in legislative updates on legislation.gov.uk. Non-compliance can result in substantial fines and imprisonment, with Gas Safe Register serving as the official list of competent gas engineers authorised to work legally on gas appliances.
